(bagpipes, pennywhistle, vocals)
Devon is Finley’s old military buddy of many years when they went through officer basic training in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Having been posted into Ottawa, Devon was keen on getting into the Celtic circuit. A bit of luck brought him in touch Finley and his band Riverthieves – the last time Finley and Devon had played together was in the back of an Army truck on Army training! He’s now been with the band since February 2005, adding a whole new dimension to the band’s sound.
Devon learned the piano and bagpipes as a young boy in Calgary. As a young private, he played with the Calgary Highlanders Pipes and Drums for two years before moving off to the Royal Military College in Kingston. Then in Québec City from 1997 to 2003, he was particularly active on the Celtic circuit with the pennywhistle. He played for a number of freelance bands, including the group Holy Buckers and the Shannon Irish Dancers, and he helped establish the St-Andrew’s Pipes and Drums.
Devon also plays for the Ottawa City Police Pipes and Drums competition band, and he manufactures his own Irish whistles. He is married to Valérie and works as an engineer in military equipment procurement.
