(fiddle, piano, vocals)
Shanthi Minor moved to Ottawa from Thunder Bay in the fall of 2003. Finley heard her play at Daniel O’Connell’s Pub in November and immediately recruited her for the band. Shanthi played her first gig as a Whiskey Dolly in the current Riverthieves line-up in December, 2003.
Almost from birth, Shanthi was trained in the Suzuki classical method as both a pianist and violinist. She brings to the band a disciplined technique and a commitment to structured rehearsal. This musical professionalism is complimented by a breezy ability to improvise and solo and a love of jamming. Shanthi is all about fiddle music and plays in both Irish and French styles.
In Thunder Bay, Shanthi played with Kreamsicle, a folk music group, and Awkward Silence, an eclectic orchestral rock group. She also played with the Thunder Bay Suzuki Strings, a variety of classical music ensembles, and was concert mistress of the Thunder Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra.
